Long BiO

Grant Maloy Smith is an Americana recording artist and songwriter whose music paints vivid portraits of the American experience. With a storyteller’s heart and a historian’s respect for truth, Smith has spent the past decade crafting a trilogy of albums that explore the nation’s soul through its landscapes and people. His acclaimed DUST BOWL: American Stories (2017) brought to life the parched struggle of families who braved the 1930s storms. APPALACHIA: American Stories (2020) followed, celebrating the endurance, faith, and fierce beauty of mountain life. Then came MISSISSIPPI: American Stories (2024), a sweeping musical journey along the mighty river that runs from Minnesota to New Orleans—chronicling the people, culture, and history shaped by its waters, from steamboats and cotton fields to blues joints and bayous.

Blending folk, country, and roots influences, Smith’s sound feels timeless yet urgent—echoing the grit of John Prine and the soulful fire of Chris Stapleton. His songs are less performances than living stories: love, loss, struggle, and redemption drawn from the heart of the land itself. With his next project exploring America’s westward expansion and the frontier spirit, Smith continues his musical chronicle of the nation’s unfolding story—one album, one landscape, one truth at a time.
