The fourth album in the Billboard Top 10 and multiple award-winning AMERICAN STORIES series of theme albums from Grant Maloy Smith. More than an hour of music exploring America's westward expansion in the 1800s, starting with the Louisiana Purchase and the subsequent Lewis and Clark expedition to explore and map the new territory, and featuring heroes like Native American Sakajawea, US President Teddy Roosevelt, and escaped slave-turned-Deputy US Marshal Bass Reeves. The 18-song double album is filled with passionate songs about the transcontinental railroad, the pony express and the telegraph, the rise and fall of cowboy culture, the lure of the American rodeo, the tragic Trail of Tears, Texas’ war for independence from Mexico, the Spanish-American War, the Gold Rush, and much more. The music is accompanied by a hardcover book written and illustrated by the artist himself.
The album was produced at Grant's own Suburban Cowboy Studio in Rhode Island, with additional sessions engineered by Jeff Silverman at Palette MSP in Nashville. Grant played the guitars and keyboards, accompanied by some of Nashville's top musicians, like dobro master Rob Ickes, banjoist Scott Vestal, vocalists Carrie McDowell and Kim Fleming, fiddler Michael Cleveland, accordionist Jeff Taylor, pedal steel artist Mike Johnson, and fiddler Matt Combs.
In addition, Grant wrote a 90-page hardcover book that provides historical and cultural context for each song. Early shipments of the boxed sets, CDs, and books have begun ahead of the official release date!

In addition, Grant wrote a 90-page, 11 x 8.5-inch hardcover coffee-table book to accompany the album. Besides the credits and lyrics, the book includes the backstories behind the songs, placing them in historical context and detailing aspects of the writing and recording process. It is filled with amazing photographs and artwork for each song. This is a powerful part of the album, and you'll want to display it proudly and leaf through it when you hear the music.
The ultimate version of the album is the box set, which includes TWO vinyl LPs, a CD, and a hardcover book (with links to download the songs digitally), all housed in a beautiful decorative box. If you buy only the CD, you will also get the digital download links.
The Book
Grant wrote and illustrated a beautiful 90-page book that complements the album. Besides the liner notes and credits, it provides essential context on the history behind each song. It's a vital companion piece to the music. It's a hardcover book printed wider than it is tall, measuring 11 x 8.5 inches (279.4 x 215.9 mm). The book is filled with historical images as well as new ones created specifically for it. The graphics are gorgeous. You can leaf through the first 15 pages using the player below. Release Schedule
Starting on 13 June, singles will be released leading up to the full album release on 18 September 2026. Singles will be released on all of the popular streaming platforms; however, the full album will not be. The only way to hear the whole album is to order it from this website. Both the double vinyl LP and CD physical products include a link that allows you to download the digital files to your personal music-playing device or computer.
