Broadway show tunes meet the Sopranos in this one of a kind "mobster musical", meant to be a send-up with heart, and lots of fun all around.
FBI undercover agent Hopper (Jed Griswold), last seen in the film "Family Gathering", enlists fellow agent Tommy Marone (Bobby Sylvia) to gain the trust of some notorious mobsters, and trick them into staying at a "safe house" that is anything but. The mobsters have a hard time adjusting to their new rustic surroundings, in a hick New England town completely lacking in the luxuries and conveniences that they have grown to love. Brand new local cop Lt. Campbell (Grant Maloy Smith) gets involved, much to their chagrin.
* Originally shot as a series of 10 minute films for FILMAKA, THE MOB is being developed into a feature length film. The final film will have approximately 16 songs.
“What an experience THE MOB was -- Dawn and I had just done ANEMIA, for which I had written a Broadway style song. That was quite a success in its own right, and I learned that I could write that kind of song, which was a revelation to me. Then she had this opportunity to make a series of short films for FILMAKA, and she wanted to make a mob comedy. Within seconds we both blurted out “how about a mob comedy MUSICAL?” and the rest is history. Writing for multiple characters was really a challenge but lots of fun. Now I know these characters so well that I could write anything for them. Months later, seeing the actors bring my words and melodies to life was a real thrill. Working with MIKE, JOHN, and LARRY was crazy and fun all wrapped up into one. We have many stories from this shoot, some of which we can even tell in public.”
