A Bridge Too Slow
Short film, composer of original theme, actor
In this upside-down world, people live in cars. They go to work in office complexes which are inside busses and trucks parked along the roads and bridges. Courthouses, offices, and banks are large trucks and panel vans.
In this quirky short comedy, everyman JIM PORTER (played by Grant Maloy Smith) faces the challenge of his life. A large corporation is using the courts and eminent domain to have Jim and his entire neighborhood evicted from the bridge they have called home for decades, in order to make room for a more upscale development. Jim and his neighbors fight for their rights in this short 3 minute film, set within the context of a local Boston news broadcast. Staged as a black comedy.
❝What I remember most about this project is the long day of shooting in a Boston February, and freezing my rear end off, being outside the entire day. But looking back it was whacky fun, especially working with the Team Medford production group led by Dawn Natalia. A few days later, in my cozy and warm studio, I had a blast writing a perky and uptempo theme, which I am proud of. It was meant to remind you of a British sit-com theme song.❞
